As I was finally finishing this book, I remembered that Vince Flynn was nearing his death when he was wrapping this book up. It was a very good Mitch Rapp book. He was able to write most of The Survivor after this one. Previously, I read each Vince Flynn book as it came out, but got side-tracked with other stuff after Extreme Measures. After some time, I came back to start reading them again. There are many other good terrorists fighters out there in novels now, but Mitch Rapp was an original and is still one of the best. The plot holds up well even after all these years have passed. The great thing about the Rapp series it typically delves into US relationships with other countries. In Protect and Defend it was Iran. Here it was Afghanistan and Pakistan. The characters were the strength of the book. New characters are introduced and depth added to old characters. Hurley is a trip and the dynamic between him and Rapp was awesome. Kennedy has arguably her best role to date. She's tough and puts various people in their place. I'm still trying to figure out what they are going to do with the Mike Nash character... He went from tough to clueless and whiny in this novel.I still don't understand what happened to Glen Adams in Pursuit of Honor. He is not mentioned here but wouldn't you think the IG of the CIA disappearing out of the blue would be a big deal, especially with all the time spent on that story line in Pursuit of Honor.Lastly, it was bittersweet to read this book since it was the last book Vince Flynn wrote in the Rapp series before his passing. Flynn is one of my favorite authors and Rapp is one of my favorite characters. This series is amazing! I hope Kyle Mills does Flynn proud as I get ready to read "The Survivor" . RIP Vinve ! You are missed!
